The International Telecommunication Union's (ITU's) 20th Plenipotentiary Conference opened today with an international call for the all inhabitants of the world to work together to provide internet access to the nearly four billion people who do not have access to it. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are providing education, health care and a slew of online resources to billions of people around the globe.

“Holding the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in the United Arab Emirates is a testament from the ITU and the international telecommunications community to the UAE's achievements in the field of rational use of telecommunications technology for the benefit of humanity, state building, as well as the economy and civilization," the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) said as he spoke on the behalf of the Vice President and Prime Minister Of the UAE and head of Dubai.

Over 2500 participants have agreed to attend the conference.
