October 24th

The General Assembly established World Development Information Day in 1972 to draw attention to to development issues and the imminent need to strengthen international collaboration in order to solve them. The United Nations General Assembly decided that the date should coincide with United Nations Day, which is recognized on the 24th of October, and is also the date of the of the International Development Strategy for the Second United Nations Development Decade.

The Assembly agreed that improving the distribution of information and the utilization of public opinion, especially with the younger generation, will assist in reaching a greater level of awareness. In order to solve the world’s most pressing issues, global awareness is the first step in efforts to promote international cooperation.
