The ozone layer protects the earth from harmful UV rays, thus helping sustain life on earth. The decreased usage of substances that thin the ozone layer has helped protect the earth, future generations, and has assisted with efforts to address climate change. It has also helped protect human health and different ecosystems by stopping large amounts of ultraviolet rays from reaching the earth.

This years’ theme for World Ozone Day 2018 on September 16th is to encourage all people to keep on working towards protecting the ozone layer and the climate at large.  The theme has two areas, that protecting the ozone layer means protecting the climate and that the Montreal Protocol treaty be recognized as a means to keep the earth's temperatures cooler.
