The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the blueprint for what the United Nations hopes the world will look like. They can be applied to all nations and ensure that every individual is accounted for.
As technological advancements have created a world where billions of people are now able to communicate at their will, many more groups and individuals have the ability to voice their hopes and dreams for the future of the world. With this diverse group of voices, the UN now gives platforms to an even larger scope of debates and discussions. The United Nations is making attempts to give everyone a voice by adopting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
The Sustainable Developments Goals are the map of what the world will hopefully look like by 2030. The youth of today will be the leaders of tomorrow and now have the chance to shape the world in which they will live. This means that older generations need to meet the youth where they are now, and that is in a digitally savvy, technologically advanced world. Their world is visual, and largely seen on small screens.
It is the duty of the United Nations to make sure that all people have equal access to the SDGs. Meaning that the UN, has the responsibility to preserve, for the duration of their relevance, the ‘traditional’ method of communication. Radio is still the main way to reach over 60 per cent of Pakistan’s population.
The youth have made their desire for love and connection clear, the UN seeks to have these needs recognized in the SDGs. Emotional and existential aspects of the human experience need to be accounted for.
