According to UNWTO Tourism Highlights 2018 Edition’, international tourism arrivals came to a total of 1,323 million in the year 2017. This set a new record by being about 84 million more than the year before. Tourism has now experienced consistent growth for the last eight years. 2017 Proved to have the highest growth since 2010 largely because of booming tourism in parts of Europe and Africa.
International tourism made a 5% increase in 2017. International tourism produced US$ 240 billion from transportation taken by non-residents of various areas. This put the total number of tourism exports at a whopping US$ 1.6 trillion, or US$ 4 billion per day.
These impressive 2017 results were led by the continuous demand for travel destinations across the world. There was a high demand from all markets, including growing economies like Brazil and the Russian Federation.
The new report also demonstrates that China remains the country with the most global outbound travel, with having spent a reported US$ 258 billion on international tourism in 2017. This is equivalent to almost 20% of global spending on tourism in 2017.
