World Humanitarian Day will be recognized on the August 19th, 2018, to pay respects to workers who put their lives at risk in humanitarian service. The day was established as a way to gather support for those affected by different crisis around the world.

World Humanitarian Day strives to bring attention to the countless individuals who are affected by armed conflict on a daily basis. People all over the world struggle to find food, water, suitable shelter, and other necessities while in the midst of conflict. Children are forced into wars and their schools are ruined. Women face unimaginable abuse. Humanitarian workers give up their comfort, and medical professionals tend to the wounded all while being targeted and often viewed as threats. 

It is impossible to document each individual experience of people affected by conflict, but this day was established in efforts to honor those affected. Everyone from people living with disabilities, the elderly, migrants, and all other people who may cross paths with conflict deserve to be protected.
