International Day of non-violence is recognized on the 2nd of October, the same day as Mahatma Gandhi's birthday. As Gandhi was a pioneer for non-violent protest and peaceful methods.
The United Nations views the International Day as a day to "disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness". The main goal of this day being recognized is "to secure a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence".
Mr. Anand Sharma, the Indian Minister of State for External Affairs, expressed his deep respect and appreciation for the non-violent and peaceful principles encouraged by Mahatma Gandhi. He quoted the late leader’s words as he said shared: "Nonviolence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. It is mightier than the mightiest weapon of destruction devised by the ingenuity of man".
