The first Monday of every October has been deemed World Habitat Day. The United Nations advocates that this day be used as a time to take inventory on the current state of towns and cities around the world, and to look at the basic requirements for suitable shelter. World Habitat Day is also intended to remind all people that it is up to all of us to create a future where all people are well taken care of.
This year, the focus will be on the municipal solid waste management challenges. The slogan “Waste-Wise Cities” was selected to bring awareness to the promoting of sanitary and effective ways to dispose waste, especially in developing nations. The day seeks to foster global partnerships, raise awareness, and collaboratively seek solutions to waste management challenges.
