World Creativity and Innovation Day(#WCID) will be observed on the 21st of April, 2018. This day of celebration comes shortly after Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday and right before International Mother Earth Day. #WCID is intended to support creativity in all fields in order to create a sustainable future.

Creativity and innovation continuously prove to add richness to society. Creativity champions a variety of industries such as the audiovisual, design, new media, performing arts, publishing, and visual arts industries. These areas have transformed society and aided in job creation. Culture is at the core of sustainable development as it acts as a point of reference when communities look for their identity. In addition, creativity and culture contribute to fostering intercultural communication.

According to a UNESCO report on culture and sustainable development, culture and creative sectors need to be considered in economic growth strategies. Creative industries have brought in $2.25 billion in revenue and $29.5 million jobs worldwide.
