The United Nations declared September 5th as the International Day of Charity to recognize the ongoing impact of the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The U.N. 2030 Agenda has been dubbed as the “greatest global challenge” of this time. The 2030 Agenda, which was put in place in September 2015, seeks to eradicate all forms of poverty, this includes extreme poverty. The Agenda also advocates for a stronger sense of global unity as we focus on those in the most vulnerable positions. It recognizes the necessity of a diverse private sector that ranges from smaller organizations to those that have a global platform.
The Agenda was inspired and guided by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Both can be categorized into 6 key areas: planet, people, prosperity, peace, and partnership. If organizations and individuals can focus philanthropic efforts on these areas, the world will see a significant improvement in the quality of life for all people.
