Violence against children
April 2, 2019
The UN Secretary-General António Guterres launched a new UN advocacy campaign on Tuesday titled: Act to Protect Children Affected by Conflict. Mr. Guterres, at the UN headquarters this week, utered: “Should a child survive and be fortunate enough to be released to a reintegration programme, they still have only a slim chance of recovery”.
Children who survived conflict are often trapped in a cycle of poverty due to a lack of education and opportunities. The UN Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba, chaired the launch event and emphasized that this campaign plan to protect children who have been affected by armed conflict around the world.
